The idea for E-lia was born in 2021, during a conversation in the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam.
Michael van de Watering shared with Kees van Nuland that he had developed a custom app for his training company. The content was strong, but the app saw little to no engagement. Employees were reluctant to install yet another app — and those who did rarely returned to it.
That insight led to a simple yet powerful idea:

The choice was clear. WhatsApp — a channel everyone knows and uses effortlessly.
In 2022, we developed the first version of E-lia and tested it within the facilities department of Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.
The results exceeded all expectations.
Users quickly confirmed that WhatsApp is the ideal channel for receiving information and short learning modules. Tasks could be completed effortlessly during a coffee break or on the way home.
The outcome was so positive that we decided to officially establish E-lia.
