Its purpose is to increase safety awareness and address specific workplace risks, such as working at height or handling hazardous materials.
Toolbox talks typically take 10 to 15 minutes and can be delivered online or directly on-site.
How many toolbox talks am I required to deliver?
This depends on your certification. For companies with a VCA certification (VCA*, VCA** or VCA Petrochemical), the general guideline is to deliver at least 10 toolbox talks per year (approximately one per month) to operational staff.
Even without VCA certification, health and safety legislation requires employers to properly inform employees about workplace risks and safe working practices.
What makes a good toolbox talk?
An effective and compliant toolbox talk should meet a few key requirements:
Relevance: the topic should match current tasks or risks on the work floor.
Interaction: it should not be one-way communication — employees need the opportunity to ask questions.
